Nyetimber Weather - Notes
- 20 Mar 2011 Weather transmitter now has a new capacitor fitted and is working again. The computer which was running the weather software has been retired as its fans were getting rather noisy. A quieter 2006 laptop with a recent new hard drive and install of Windows XP Pro is now being used.
- 16 Mar 2011 - Progress Report - The offending capacitor has had to be ordered from the USA as nobody in the UK stocked that particular size. We await delivery. The capacitor then has to be soldered to the circuit board. Hopefully, the transmitter will then work.
- 4 Mar 2011 - Progress Report - I have found a leaky capacitor on the transmitter circuit board and have an electronics friend looking at it in the hope that it can be replaced and start working again.
- 26 Feb 2011 - Outside transmitter unit has failed and is not transmitting data to the inside unit. As a result, this weather station is offline for the forseeable future as a replacement transmitter unit is far too expensive to replace.
- 31 Dec 2010 - Apparently the coldest December since records began in 1910. The second coldest December was in 1981.
- 4 Dec 2010 - Snow all melted over previous night.
- 2 Dec 2010 - Around 5"-6" of snow overnight.
- 1 Dec 2010 - More sprinklings and showers of snow.
- 30 Nov 2010 - Sprinkling of snow.
- 17 Sep 2010 - Outside tansmitter unit failed! It seems that
the battery replaced last October 2009 has prematurely failed.
New battery fitted in outside sensor unit - Now OK.
- 14 Jan 2010 - Snow mostly gone now - except for human made piles.
- 8 Jan 2010 - The rain shown over the last few days is of course melting snow from 6 Jan 2010. All the snow has melted from the rain guage today.
- 6 Jan 2010 - Snow overnight which measured 22mm at 8am but it was very slushy as the temperature had remained above freezing all night. At 3pm the snow measured 52mm making a further 30mm since 8am.
- 18 Dec 2009 - A few mm of snow overnight but sun soon melted it.
- 2 Oct 2009 - New battery fitted in outside sensor unit - Thought it must be getting near time to replace the first battery, which has now given 3+ years of service and was still going strong.
- 1 Jul 2009 - 'Windows' was by now running so slow on the weather computer that I moved the WeatherLink software to another slightly more up to date one which had a new install of 'Windows' XP Pro on it.
- 3 Feb 2009 - Dusting of snow over previous night. Rain measurement today is actually melting snow and frost.
- 2 Feb 2009 - 4mm of snow had fallen over previous night.
- 30 April 2008 - New outside temperature and humidity sensor fitted.
- 6 April 2008 - Started heavy snow around 9am but soon eased off. About 1" accumulated but was mostly gone by 2pm.
- 10 March 2008 - After a strong gust of wind around 07.45 my anemometer stopped working! Anemometer switching contacts stuck. Strongest gust of wind so far today was 44mph around 6am.
15.45 - Replacement anemometer back working again.
- 19, 20 and 21 Dec 2007 - The amounts of rain are actually melted frost.
- Oct 2007 - As the USB connection to the Vantage Pro 2 console was proving unreliable, it was changed for a Serial connection instead. This has proved to be far more reliable.
- 4 Oct 2007 - The 0.2mm of 'rain' overnight was actually a very dewy fog.
- 24 Jan 2007 - Awoke to around 2" (51mm) of snow in the morning but it mostly melted by noon the same day. It melted to show 2.6mm of rain.
- 26 Aug 2006 - Davis Vantage Pro 2 installed.
